Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kaiārahi Ako Matua - Senior Learning Adviser to join Te Taiako - Student Learning on a permanent, full-time contract. The role includes delivering general learning advising programmes and services for student academic skills enhancement at Te Taiako - Student Learning. Additionally, the role will be responsible for providing leadership and support for programme and resource development.

  Key responsibilities: 

  • Academic skills enhancement for diverse learners at all levels of studywith a focus on academic writing.
  • Programme planning, design implementation and management.
  • Pan University learning and teaching.
  • Student Wellbeing and Safety.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will:

  • Have a tertiary qualification and relevant experience in supporting adult learners.
  • Be experienced in programme design, management and administration.
  • Be able to lead staff and students to enhance their academic skills capabilities at undergraduate and postgraduate level and collaborate on pan-university projects.
  • Be a highly-organised self-starter, able to work both autonomously and within a high performing team, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Te Herenga Waka students’ diverse cultural, academic, language and learning needs, and the values of akoranga, manaakitanga and whanaungatanga.
  • Be passionate about student retention and achievement.

Key requirements:

  • Proven experience in an academic writing adviser role (or similar) in the tertiary environment.
  • Proven experience in programme design, management, administration and evaluation.
  • Experience leading teams or working as part of a team in wider contexts.
  • Proven experience in building effective relationships across an organisation and working strategically to achieve teaching and learning goals.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills.
